Genre: Science Fiction

The genre science fiction, commonly known as sci-fi, has gained massive popularity in the recent decades due to blockbuster hits such as Star Wars and Back to The Future. In these films, humanity is shown to have a higher advancement of technology than what is currently available, creating a limitless world for the writers to toy with.

The first issue shown in the sci-fi genre is that it doesn’t appeal to all audiences due to it having unrealistic features which could turn people aware from the genre. On the other hand, this may cause people enjoy science fiction more due to it being very different from different movies because of its wide variety of options.

Another issue is that it plays with people’s fears by using themes like alien invasions or zombie apocalypses. An example of this is time travel and how it can affect the future for the better or the worse in little or drastic ways for example “Back to The Future” shows how even with little change it can have major events in the future or vice versa. Another example is “I, Robots” and how robots could become sentient and this plays with the audience’s fears and how they could replace everyday workers with robots.

Science Fiction can be used to raise awareness using dystopian futures to portray for see able events such as global warming. An example of this is “Snowpiercer” which shows what happens when we don’t look after the planet and stop global warming which could be used as awareness to society.

Synopsis:

The genre of our short film is a thriller. The plot is as such - after his class gets free seating for a lesson, a girl sits next to a boy. A seemingly innocent action leads the boy to become somewhat obsessed with this girl, often trying to strike up a conversation, but most of the time he ends up staring longingly at her, leaving uneasy and sinister vibes in the air. These vibes linger throughout the film until the end, where our narrative twist comes in. We see the girl walking through a dark tunnel. The audience believes the boy will attack the girl in some way when she is robbed. The boy sees and attempts to intervene, but gets fatally wounded as he does so, leading to his demise. The last shot of the film is of the boy reaching out to the girl, whether this be as a sign of anger, content, or acceptance is up to the audience. We also see how the girl pretty much forgets of the guys existence, not even passing him a look in the hallway. The only indication that she knew who he was...
